Customized Tariff

Price Every Shipment by Zone, Slab and Customer

A courier tariff and rating engine calculates the price of every shipment from configurable rules — zones, weight slabs and per-customer rates — plus surcharges like fuel, tax and cash handling. iCargos resolves each rate through a defined lookup order and holds over 115,000 per-customer rate rows, so every account is billed to its own agreement.

How a rate is resolved

For every booking the engine walks a fixed lookup order and takes the first tariff that matches the route — from the most specific to the most general.

Same city Zone State Country

Manual city, zone, state and country overrides slot into that order, so you can set an exact rate for a specific lane without touching the rest of the tariff.

Weight slabs, done right

Slab-based pricing

Each service has weight slabs (e.g. 0–0.5 kg, 0.5–1 kg, 1–2 kg) with its own rate; the engine finds the slab your shipment falls into.

Additional-kg logic

Weight above the top slab is priced per additional unit — and any fraction of a unit is charged as a whole unit, exactly as your T&Cs state.

Minimum & volumetric weight

A 0.5 kg minimum chargeable weight, and volumetric weight computed as (L × W × H) / 5000 for bulky parcels.

A rate card per customer

Per-customer rates always override the default tariff — so your biggest merchants get their negotiated pricing automatically, at booking time.

Frequently asked questions

How does iCargos decide the price of a shipment?
The rating engine walks a fixed lookup order — same city, then zone, then state, then country, with manual overrides at each level — and takes the first tariff that matches the route. It then finds the weight slab and applies any surcharges.
Can I set different rates for different customers?
Yes. Per-customer rates always override the default tariff, so negotiated pricing applies automatically at booking. Over 115,000 per-customer rate rows are live across roughly 3,485 merchants today.
How is weight charged?
By slab. Each service has weight bands with their own rate; weight above the top band is charged per additional unit, with any fraction rounded up to a whole unit. A 0.5 kg minimum applies, and volumetric weight is (L × W × H) / 5000.
What surcharges can be applied?
Fuel surcharge (typically 35% of charges), GST (16%), sales and income tax on COD (2% each), a cash handling fee (~1–1.5%) and flat bank charges (Rs 85). Each is configurable globally with per-account overrides.
Is there a way to check a rate before booking?
Yes — a built-in rate calculator resolves the tariff, weight slab and surcharges for a route and returns the charge up front, using the same logic that prices a live booking.
